Almost 300 reporters killed in Iraq since 2003

Two hundred and ninety-five journalists, including 16 women, have been killed in Iraq since the beginning of the US-led invasion in March 2003, the chairman of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate said, Itar-Tass reports.

Russian reporter Dmitry Chebotayev was killed in Iraq in May 2007. He was working there from the US WTN agency.

Two employees of Al-Baghdadia channel, Haider Hashim and Suhaib Adnan, a correspondent and a cameraman, became the most recent victims of the Iraqi chaos. They were making a report about the meeting between the elders of the local tribes and the officers of Iraqi military structures on the outskirts of Baghdad. The meeting, in which the two journalists were killed, took place on March 10. Another journalist, Ibrahim al-Katib, a correspondent of Al-Iraqia satellite television, suffered severe injuries as a result of the blast during the meeting.

Most of the journalists were killed in Baghdad. Mosul, a city in northern Iraq, comes second at this point.
