Kiev troops take Slavyansk and Kramatorsk

The governor of the Donetsk region of Ukraine, Sergei Taruta, said on Sunday, July 6, said that all services and communications in Slavyansk would be restored during one week.

"During the week, I think, we will repair all services in Slavyansk, - said Taruta. - The priority is electricity and medicine. the prime goal now is the hospital, as there is no electricity there. Then, there is water, drainage, and all social services."

In turn, Verkhovna Rada-appointed Interior Minister of Ukraine Arsen Avakov promised residents of Slavyansk that electricity supply will be restored to the city within two days, according to ITAR-TASS.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Defense Minister Valeriy Geletey reported to President Petro Poroshenko that punitive troops had captured two more settlements of the People's Republic of Donetsk: Artyomovsk and Druzhkivka.

Poroshenko ordered the Defense Minister to pay particular attention to the problem of clearing urban infrastructure of mines to prevent civilian casualties."

The President also instructed to start the rehabilitation of infrastructure in the captured cities, to ensure adequate supplies of food, drinking water and provide all necessary humanitarian assistance to local residents, ITAR-TASS reports.

Defense Minister of the People's Republic of Donetsk, Igor Strelkov, gave his first interview after leaving the surrounded Slavyansk. According to him, the decision was motivated by the wish to save the lives of civilians and militia, LifeNews reports.

"At night, we broke through the circle of Ukrainian troops after a diversionary attack on the enemy positions. The attack was conducted by our armored group. Most of the people in the group, unfortunately, died. This was due to an error committed by the group commander," said Strelkov.

He also noted that it was possible to take up to 90 percent of personnel and weapons out of the town. According to him, the families of soldiers and militia, for whom it was extremely dangerous to remain in the town, were evacuated from the town.

Strelkov suggested that the National Guard of Ukraine will take revenge on civilians of Slavyansk, Kramatorsk and Artemovsk for numerous losses.

"On July 7, I intend to create the Central Military Commission that will include all out field commanders. In this body, we will negotiate further questions of defense of the People's Republic of Donetsk and possibly Luhansk," Strelkov said.

On the morning of July 5th, militia left Slavyansk. Most of them left to the town of Kramatorsk. The column of military hardware of the militia - three KamAZ trucks, three tanks and several vehicles - drove into the town, breaking through the defense of the Ukrainian soldiers.

However, the militia had to leave Kramatorsk as well to save civilians. Afterwards, Commander Igor Strelkov ordered all units to defend the city of Donetsk.

On Sunday, July 6, punitive troops established full control of the towns of Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, the press-center of the so-called "anti-terrorist operation" said.
