Ahmadinejad: "An Israeli attack on Iran is a total stupidity"

On Tuesday (25th), Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, called the military threats of the Israeli regime against the Persian country unfounded. Ahmadinejad, who is in New York to attend the 67th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), gave an interview to television channel NHK stating that the threats are unfounded and, "as declared by the regime of Tel Aviv" do not scare Iran

The Iranian nation and the Persian president have always gained victories on the battlefield when attacked by enemies.

"A  military attack by the Israeli regime against Iran is a total stupidity," he said.

Regarding the possibility that Iran would close the Strait of Hormuz, Ahmadinejad stressed that his country has "always defended the establishment of security in the strait and that throughout its history, has always successfully fulfilled this important work, without representing at any moment a threat to the security of the place."

In response to a question about Tehran-Washington relations, Ahmadinejad acknowledged that "the past 33 years, the United States maintained hostile relations with Iran, and the Persian nation does not have fond memories of U.S. intervention in their internal affairs."

Elsewhere in the interview, Ahmadinejad referred to the dissemination of the anti-Islamic film produced in the U.S. as another Israeli regime conspiracy to sow discord among Muslims, in order to preserve its existence.

The Iranian chief executive also considered access to nuclear energy technology for peaceful purposes a right of all states, including Iran, and stressed that "nobody can deprive countries of their rights."

The Iranian nuclear case should be solved through diplomacy, Ahmadinejad said, remembering then that Iran does not consider that there is any obstacle to continue dialogue with the Group 5 +1 (U.S., UK, France, Russia, China and Germany), based on law and justice.

The Israeli regime, which has over 200 nuclear warheads stored in their arsenals and has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), repeatedly threatened to attack Iran's nuclear facilities, under the pretext that this country is militarizing its nuclear energy.

Meanwhile, Iran has always rejected these conclusions, because being a signatory to the NPT and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran has a legitimate right to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
