Norwegian Aircraft Nearly Trespassed Russian Border

The aircraft was only two kilometers far from the border

The aircraft of the Norwegian Air Force approached the Russian border as a result of a pilot's mistake. The plane was 2 kilometers far from Rybachy peninsula. As it turned out later, the aircraft did not trespass the Russian border.

The incident happened on October 29th in the Russian air space -  in the area of the Russian-Norwegian border. This was said by Colonel-General Boris Cheltsov, Russian Air Force Headquarters chief. "We are grateful to the Norwegian authorities for their understanding in the matter of the Russian state border defense. However, the aircraft of the Norwegian Air Force approached the Russian border only for two kilometers. There was no trespassing, the aircraft was located in the Norwegian air space," Cheltsov told journalists.

Norway has expressed its regret about the unpremeditated transgression of the Russian air space. Norway's ambassador to Moscow presented Oslo's official apologies at the Russian Foreign Ministry. The ambassador said, the Norwegian authorities would take measures to avoid such incidents in the future.
